When summer temperatures in Miami reach obscene levels, any excuse to travel seems justified. And while the Wynwood asphalt melted under the sun, Montreal's Saint Laurent Boulevard was in the 70's. Great weather for a mural festival and a great reason for us to visit the third edition of this amazing street art gathering.
Organized by the non-profit MURAL out of Montreal, the street art festival features 19 artists during 11 days of continuous painting and entertainment. Embraced by the community at large, Mural 2015 was an awesome display of organization and enterpeneurship; local restaurants outpouring into the streets and participating in the daily events, not to mention a busy metropolitan Boulevard transformed into a pedestrian street for 11 days.
Miami's art scene was well represented during Mural 2015 with the contributions of the beloved 2Alas duo and the strong imagery of Axel Void. And while many of the other artists are not Miami based, their faces (Elian, Jaz, Faith 47) have become so familiar by now, that at times we felt like home.
Organized mural festivals are an amazing oportunity for street art enthusiasts and spectators in general; providing an easy to navigate experience and allowing the visitors to witness multiple murals in the making at all times. Congratulations to LNDMRK for making an event of such magnitude look easy and run flawlessly for 11 consecutive days. Can't wait to see more of their projects in Miami again this year.
