Once you meet HecOneLove, his street art monicker makes a lot of sense. A lovable over achiever who has played a very important role in Miami's street art scene since the early 80's. So as expected, when he was approached by Carol City Middle School to paint a mural on the premises, he turned a simple mural gig into an ambitious curatorial project.
And just like that, the well respected street artist pulled out his book of contacts and invited more than 20 local artists to participate. Following the steps of Jose de Diego School in Wynwood and their RAW Project, many schools in Miami are starting to embrace the street art movement and the positive results it brings to their students; boosting school pride and bringing awareness to their campus.
"Miami Gardens is also a community that is in need of a positive light," Principal Sonia Romero said. "I want to bring positivity to our community at large".
Speaking of pride and awareness... we at Wynwood Murals are proud to see so many members of our grafitti and street art community ALWAYS willing to inspire and assist with the beautification of public spaces. We hope these collaborative efforts between artists and communities bring awareness to our public officials about street art and it's role in our city.
Currently in progress, the project is expected to be completed by August 31, 2015 with a brilliantly chosen roster of artists. Once finished, Carol City Middle School will host a selection of work by a mix of well known street artists and emerging players in the game; a refreshing move by HecOne that makes a statement about opportunity and change.
