The Bakehouse Art Complex is a non profit organization located in the Wynwood Arts District. Originally named the Grove House and located in Coconut Grove, the organization purchased the historic American Bakeries Company art deci buildings in 1986 and transformed it into roughly 70 small artists studios, common work areas and exhibition spaces.
The Bakehouse Art Complex long term commitment to the art community was fundamental in the development of Wynwood as the city's street art mecca when, in the early 1980's, the west side of the complex facing Interstate 95 became a legal wall for local street artists and inner city kids, through local outreach programs the organization engaged in at the time.
Artists Sneek and Seme of VO5 commonly painted on the Bakehouse Art Complex "Wall of Fame" during the mid 1980's. Landscape improvements alongside I95 made the wall no longer visible from the highway.
